Testimonials What career changers are saying... "Becoming a Technology Education teacher has been the greatest career move I could have ever made. Having gone to school for engineering and worked in industry for several years, the switch to Education and the public sector has been quite an adjustment, but the rewards are countless. I would encourage anyone that has a background in engineering, architecture and the applied sciences, who has been thinking about making a change, to consider becoming a Technology Education teacher. It is a wonderful way to impart your knowledge and experience on students who show interest in these fields, and to spark an interest in technology in others. It is especially rewarding to see the interest that the students have in learning about my previous jobs and to be able to let them know how and when they would actually use what they have learned." - Mrs. Nicole Hodgson, Technology Education Teacher, Northern Valley Regional High School, Former Civil Engineer
What engineers are saying... "My greatest teacher, Mr. Morris Lerner from Barringer High School, was an engineer turned educator. I remember him most for how his industry experience shaped my ideas about technology." – Mr. Harry Roman, Retired Engineer, Writer, Member of the NJ Inventors Hall of Fame
What current college students are saying... "I kind of stumbled upon the Technology Education career. After going into the wrong major initially I spoke with a teacher who I remained close with after high school, he told me about the Technology Education program at The College of New Jersey. Right away, I knew that was what I wanted to do." - Stefani Migiani, TCNJ Class of 2011
"I initially really liked my technology classes and had no interest in becoming a teacher. I aspired to become a computer engineer. My technology teacher told me I should consider switching to Tech. Ed. because I could be really good at it. The first day that I went to plan a schedule I realized how tough it was going to be to become an engineer...I switched to Technology Education that day and I've gotten to do technology-based challenges, as well as learn how to speak publicly. I feel that the idea of knowing a little bit about a lot of things (as opposed to knowing a lot about one thing) is just how I naturally am." - Tom Jennings, TCNJ Student
"I wanted to become a Technology Education major because I LOVED my tech classes in high school. That fact that I took a tech class is a funny story. I had not even considered taking a tech course. It just so happens that the Media class I wanted to take was half a year and the other half of that year was Engineering 1. Being as I had to take Engineering to get to the class I wanted, I walked into class with a “I have to do this” mentality. On the first day of that class, Mr. Wallace, the teacher, presented a design problem and gave us the materials we could use. I won that first day challenge and the rest is history as they say. The rest of the year, I went onto build a bridge and a pneumatic powered robot. I enjoyed that class and I knew I had found my niche. During my high school years, I immensely enjoyed my time being a TSA board member and doing their competitions and activities. I was in Engineering 1-4 class and was a pioneer in the first Women and Engineering class in which i was a member. The chance to be so creative in a job and never do the same thing twice appealed to me. Thinking back of my high school technology career, I can reflect on my teachers. We think of the effective teachers we have had over the years with a sense of recognition, but those who have touched our humanity we remember with a deep sense of gratitude. That is what my technology teachers meant to me and I hope to be that for my students." - Laura Gardner, TCNJ Student
