Talk With Your Students One of the easiest things current Technology Education teachers can do is talk with their own students about the profession. A 1998 study published in the Journal of Technology Education polling 537 technology education students from around the US indicated that the most influential factor in deciding to become a technology educator was a student’s high school technology education teacher. When speaking with your students about teaching, feel free to use this website as a guide to highlight information such as the employment outlook for teachers, what they would study in college, undergraduate programs, and other important information pages.
Students that are active and/or are leaders in TSA may be especially open to the prospect of teaching as a career.
Remember, one of the most effective means of communication about the great things a career in Technology Education has to offer is through teachers to their students one to one.
A good way to identify potential teachers is to take note of students that are very comfortable speaking in front of a class or teaching their peers one-to-one. Wendy Green, a teacher at the Marine Academy of Science and Technology and past-president of NJTEA has students work with this PowerPoint about School Success, this PowerPoint about Bloom's Taxonomies as well as this Bloom's test in such a way. Ms. Green assigns students to present a portion of each presentation just so that she can get a sense of who may be comfortable teaching.
